ECG Celebrates 50years. +++ 50 Years of Powering the Socio-Economic Growth and Development of Ghana

ECG wins an award at the African Public Sector Conference and Awards 2018

 

The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited has been awarded with Outstanding Achievement in Providing Exceptional Distribution and Safe Electricity in Africa 2017, at the African Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) 2018 which was held on the 20th April 2018, at the Convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda.

APSCA is an initiative geared towards recognizing public institutions, public sector organizations and top public servants which are constantly innovating and changing their service delivery models in order to attain expected exponential public sector growth in Africa.
The theme for this year’s awards celebration is “Removing Barriers to Growth and Innovation in Public Sector”, which gave eligible public sector organizations and individuals in Africa the opportunity to be presented with prestigious awards for their achievements.
The ECG’s Award came at the back drop of having endured over 3 years of inadequate generation which created power supply rationing and distribution challenges ‘Dumsor’. The award was in recognition of the company’s innovative interventions which ensured that power reliability was achieved just after the ‘Dumsor’ era.
The Managing Director of ECG, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah was also awarded The Public Sector C.E.O of the year, 2017.
During the conference, which was held earlier in the same day, Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah presented a case study on the theme of the conference; Removing Barriers to Growth and Innovation in Public Sector of which he expounded in detail the various challenges ECG has been facing in the last Fifty years of existence and out of the box Strategies and initiatives implemented to address the challenges and promote its growth.
He explained and summarized the initiatives under 5 thematic areas; Improvement in Revenue Collection and Loss reduction, Improvement in Customer Service Delivery, Robust and Resilient ICT infrastructure, and Improvement in System Expansion and Reliability.
He was also part of three (3) member discussants tasked to delve into challenges and barriers in public sector in their respective organizations and the innovative interventions they supervised in resolving them. They were of the strong view that the back bone of the private sector depends on the success of the public sector.
The Managing Director expressed his sincere gratitude to the entire staff of ECG and Ghana as a whole for their support, understanding and good will during the low moments of the company. He also assured all Ghanaians of a proactive and more resilient ECG in the coming years.
