The Power Queens Club of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has commenced the celebration of its 30thAnniversary.

Power Queens Club was initiated by the late Human Resource Officer of ECG, Joana Neizer, with assistance from the company’s Public Relations Manager at the time, Kwamena Longdon.

It was officially registered and inaugurated on September 24, 1988 with the motto, ‘Unity and Love.”

The club was formed at a time when ladies in the electricity company were mostly junior staff.

The women accordingly thought it wise to form a vibrant mouthpiece to articulate their concerns which could promote their general wellbeing and advancement of the company.

As part of its achievements over the last three decades, the Club presently boasts of a female Director, General Managers, Sectional Managers, and a significant number of senior staff within their ranks.

Speaking at the launch of the celebration on Monday in Accra, National President of Power Queens Club, Rosemond Asamoa-Frimpong, said “the inception of the Club came at a time when the ladies in the company, mostly junior officers, felt that their interests, concerns and expectations were being relegated to the background.”

According to her, “From humble beginnings 30 years ago, and within the backdrop of myriad of challenges, our membership has risen from over 100 ladies to a significant 1,500 plus and still counting.”

She explained that “as we continue to chart a course to grow our club and its members, we are buoyed by the expectation that the best is yet to come for Power Queens.”

She indicated that the club would make donations to the Children’s ward of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and some other major regional hospitals nationwide.

Founder of Salt and Light Ministries, Dr. Joyce Aryee, who unveiled and auctioned the anniversary’s souvenirs on the occasion, lauded the club.

Commenting on the theme for the anniversary: “Facing Change, The Role of The Queens,” she urged leadership of the Club work hard to transition ECG through power compact agreement.
