ECG organises a New Year Media Soiree for journalists in the Western Region

 

The Electricity Company of Ghana in the Western Region has organized a New Year Media Soiree for some selected media practitioners in the Region.  This was to create an informal platform for the regional management team to fraternize with local journalists, review performances of the past year and communicate the company’s objectives and expectations for the New Year.

Over the years, ECG’s relationship with professional journalists or media outlets in the region has been at the core of the company’s public relations strategy. The strategy has been to build a rapport with the media to communicate the company’s goals, ideas, intent and newsworthy events.

In this regard, the Region in 2016, fostered a good and harmonious relationship with the media in the region. Consequently, two major media events were organized last year. First was an interaction forum with selected media practitioners in the region. The event which brought together Senior Editors, Reporters, Program Hosts and their Producers and the Regional Management Team of ECG on one platform was aimed at educating and updating media practitioners on the status of ongoing projects and other customer service issues.

Second was a Distribution Engineering Training for selected journalists in the region. The one-day training program which also included a facility tour was aimed at introducing journalists to Ghana’s Power Supply chain (Generation, Transmission, Distribution) and ECG’s role in same.

The New Year Media Soiree was thus necessary to consolidate the gains made last year in the area of media relations. 

Speaking at the event, the Regional General Manager, Ing. Jacqueline Ofori-Atta noted that although the Electricity Company of Ghana maintains a primary focus of building a stronger relationship with the public, it is just as important to build a solid relationship with the media as well. This she opined was critical because “as reporters of news, journalists are also social actors with a key role to play in shaping the perceptions of our customers regarding our operations”.

Also present at the event were Director of Human Resource, Mr. Lawrence Osei Kuffuor (Esq), General Manager-Public Relations, Mr. William Boateng and the Regional Engineer, Ing. Ebenezer Ghunney. Representatives from the various ID Bodies and the other Regional Management Team members were all present.
