ECG Commissions New Substation In Asamankese

The Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. (ECG) has commissioned a new 20MVA 33/11KV capacity Primary Distribution Substation at Asamankese in the Eastern Region last Tuesday, the 13th of April, 2017.

At the technical commissioning of the new substation conducted by both ECG and MBH Power and Gas Ltd., the Regional General Manager of ECG, Ing. Michael Baah, stated that the substation is basically to improve supply voltage and also to ensure supply reliability in Asamankese and its adjouring communities.
Customers in the Asamankese, Suhum and surrounding communities have been experiencing low voltage due to the long distance of the source of power supply. According to Ing. Baah, the Substation is a relief for both ECG and its customers in the area because the source of supply is now closer to the people and that customers can enjoy quality supply of power. He said the Primary Substation will serve about 40,000 customers in Asamankese, Suhum, parts of Koforidua, Kibi, Akwatia, and parts of Nsawam.
Ing. Baah further stated that “the station will also serve as an alternative source of supply to other parts of the Region in times of outages. Thus when one part of the supply area is off, supply can be wheeled to the affected area thereby minimising the impact of the outage or fault”.
The ultra-modern sub-station, which is funded entirely by the ECG, is estimated at $ 7,933,186.55 and it is expected to further complement the Company’s effort in providing adequate supply capacity for present and future power needs of the Region.
